In 2024, we are running two type of mock exams:
The exams are as close to the 11+ as we can make it. Children are either sat at a single desk or a table with a desk divider.
Here are the schedules that we might use. We won't offer all of these at every exam.
- SWGS 11+ exams - a traditional GL Assessment exam (maths, English and verbal reasoning) and
- Bishops 11+ exams (two papers - a maths/non-verbal paper and verbal/English paper). The new BWS 11+ exam was introduced in 2023 and so we created new mock exams, which we are told were a good match to the actual 11+.

What to bring
Venue
Our mock exams will take place at Greentrees (Junior Site), not the infant site, drive to the end of Saunders Avenue, Bishopdown, Salisbury, SP1 3PG.
Invigilation
All invigilators are CRB checked. The exams will be in silence. If your child requires anything they should put their hand up.
Latecomers
Do not worry if you are late. We will do our best to accommodate you. If you arrive late for collection we may attempt to persuade your child to assist us stacking chairs.
Standard reports
All candidates get standard reports. An exam with the standard reports costs £50.
The standard reports will include an overview (and real exam projection) and a breakdown report. As well as showing their score in each section, you can see how many questions they left blank, whether their boxes were nicely filled and their position within just the boys (or girls).
You will also receive a progress report which shows how your child has done on each question type across all of the exams that they have taken.
Detailed reports
Detailed reports cost an extra £10. It is possible to request them after the exam. Please order them here. We won't charge you for more than three detailed reports, so once you have ordered them three times, you can just book a normal exam and detailed reports will be sent for free.
For every single question of every paper, the detailed report will show the subject matter of each question, your child’s answer, the correct answer and the percentage of children that got that answer right.
It will also include a sample of the questions that your child got wrong in the exam. They are printed without answers so that your child can attempt them again, if you wish. For each paper, we give you the easiest questions that your child got wrong, up to 20% of the questions in each paper/section. We choose the ones that other students found easiest - the ones that perhaps you hope they might have got right.
Booking
You can book an exam by clicking here. If you have not registered with SEP before, then please do this first by clicking here. If you think you have registered but can’t remember - assume that you have and we will let you know if you haven’t. We are reasonably flexible in allowing you to change your bookings and the reports that you would like to receive. We will normally not charge for changes.
If you cancel more than 48 hours before the exam is due to start then the most we will not refund you is a £5 admin fee. If you cancel after this time or just don’t turn up to the exam then the most we will not refund you is £20.
Payment
We ask you to pay for £20 of the exam when booking and allow you to pay the remaining £30 of the exam using childcare vouchers. Please pay the remaining £30 as soon as you have booked. Details of the various ways to pay can be found by clicking here.
If this is impossible, then please bring a cheque payable to SalisburyElevenPlus with the child's name and candidate number on the reverse. If this is impossible, then please place cash in a sealed envelope with the child's name and candidate number on the envelope. If you pay by cash, there is a chance that months later we will accuse you of not paying, so please email and complain if you have not received an email confirmation of receipt within 24 hours.
Results
Our aim is to have the results and standard reports in your SEP online drive within 48 hours of the exam finishing. You will be notified by e-mail whenever a report is added, so no need to keep checking. Please feel free to ask if you were forgotten, if it has not arrived within 72 hours.
Our aim is to send the breakdown reports within 72 hours of the exam finishing. Please feel to ask if you were forgotten, if it has not arrived within 96 hours.
The Papers
The SWGS 11+ papers have been written by ourselves using the GL Assessment papers for guidance. The BWS papers have been based on samples shared by the grammar school and any other resources that we can find.
They are updated each year based on any information given out by South Wilts or Bishop Wordsworth School and feedback from candidates after sitting the real exam.
We have a different set of papers for each exam. You don't need to worry about booking two exams and being given the same papers. We will handle this for you.
As we have written the exam there may be a small advantage to students who come to us for tuition and are used to our style and favourite topics.
I’m afraid it is not possible to have copies of the papers.
Anxiety
If your child has a genuine anxiety about sitting exams, that is so strong that they are unlikely to even attend a mock exam, then we are happy to help.
We will allow you to come in 20 minutes earlier with your child, so that they can meet us, see their desk and hear what is going to happen.
We can only offer this to a limited number of students, so we ask that you only take this up if it is really necessary. We would also recommend that if they can attend without this sort of help, then it is best that they come in as normal.
What to bring
- Two HB Pencils, a pencil sharpener, a ruler and a pencil eraser in a clear polythene bag.
- Old fashioned analogue watch (we will give warnings at half way and five minutes mto go).
- No calculators. No dictionaries. No mobile phones. No mascots.
- Drinks and snacks. No eating during the exam but it is a good idea to keep topped up during each break.
- Layers of clothing to handle whatever temperature the hall is.
